Large Language Models (LLM) have been heralded as one of the century’s most transformative technological advancements, paralleled only by monumental discoveries like fire and electricity in their societal impact. Yet, the widespread implementation of LLMs has predominantly occurred within the workforce, where they act primarily as digital scribes for automating routine tasks. This prompts a pivotal inquiry: what potential does LLM hold for the realm of education and the refinement of pedagogy?
The systematic study into how LLMs can optimally contribute to pedagogy is in its nascent stages. Early studies have uncovered promising avenues through which LLMs could revolutionize aspects of education. However, the capability of LLMs to grasp the intricacies of student needs, adjust to varied learning environments, and authentically enhance educational equity is still not fully understood and requires deeper investigation.
