The Apple Vision Pro: some quick thoughts
The Apple Way: the “it just works” factors
Apple is known to come late to a field and carefully integrate existing technologies to achieve a new level of integration. This new level of integration allows technologies to work together seamlessly to create a human experienece. This experience Apple then markets for a premium price.
IPhone is a good example of this. None of the technologies used in this product was invented by Apple, but only Apple (or Jobs) can see what needed to be done in order to offer a portable yet humane enough computing experience. However, it does take some vision to see what this experience consists of.
Steve Ballmer, at the time Microsoft CEO, famous said of the iPhone,
“500 dollars? Fully subsidized? With a plan? I said that is the most expensive phone in the world. And it doesn’t appeal to business customers because it doesn’t have a keyboard. Which makes it not a very good email machine. We have our strategy. We are very happy with Windows Phone devices in the market today. You can get Motorola Q series device for $99. It is a very capable machine, can do music, internet and more.”
